MRS. COXE RITES TO BE HELD HERE
Funeral Service for Well Known Resident of City To Be Held From Church Street Home This Afternoon
Funeral Service for Mrs. Leah Ann Livingston Coxe, 82 years of age, widow of the late Judge Martin I. Coxe, who died yesterday morning at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Camillus C. Glass, 610 East Church Street, will be held this afternoon at two o’clock from the Church Street home. The Rev. W. S. Stoney, rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal church, will read the service while interment will follow at Palatka, former home of Mrs. Coxe, later in the afternoon under direction of the Thomas Undertaking Company. Mrs. Coxe succumbed yesterday morning shortly after 11 o’clock to injuries sustained when she was burned Sunday. A bath robe she was wearing caught fire from an open fireplace and severely burned her before she could summon assistance. Mrs. Coxe was a native of Madison, Florida, and had resided in Palatka for more than 40 years before coming here to make her home with her daughter. Her husband, Martin I. Coxe, a prominent lawyer and physician was judge of Putnam county for more than 26 years. Mrs. Coxe was descended from the most prominent families of the South and East. Deceased was well known and highly esteemed here. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal church and an honorary member of Kirby Smith chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Coxe was active in U. D. C. work in Palatka and here. Pallbearers will include Frank Wattles, Palatka; Robert Gray, Sam T. Harn, J. A. Phifer, Major B. C. Riley, Judge B. D. Hiers. They are asked to meet at the home at 1:45 o’clock. Mrs. Coxe is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Camillus Glass of this city, an adopted daughter, Mrs. A. E. Adamson, Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren: Mrs. E. T. Barco, A. Martin Glass, Mrs. Hart Stringfellow, Mrs. Larry Walrath and Robert Glass, all of this city. Dr. William H. Glass, Mrs. Fred Somers, both of Orange, N. J. and Mrs. E. M. Edmonson, of San Antonio, Texas. Great grandchildren surviving are Lucile, Terrell and Barney Barco; Florence and Martine Glass; Hart, William and Fred Stringfellow and Camille Walrath; all of Gainesville; Dorothy, Jean and Isabelle Glass, Lake City; Marianne and Marjorie Glass, Orange, N. J. and Macon Edmonson, San Antonio.
